CMMS and ERP System Specification, Selection and Implementation

Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems are often purchased on a wave of high expectations regarding the benefits they will deliver. In many cases, the benefits promised provide ample financial justification for the substantial investment in those systems. Promised payback periods of three years are not uncommon. Yet many of these systems fail to provide the promised benefits. In some cases, several years after implementation, no significant benefits can be identified, despite the fact that the organisations involved have spent millions of dollars on the new system.

Our experience suggests that the most effective way of introducing sustainable long-term, large-scale improvements in Maintenance performance is to pull all of the "levers of change" in a coordinated fashion. These include, not only the technological aspects associated with CMMS selection and implementation, but also should consider the organisational, people, skills, cultural, and business process aspects associated with the implementation. In addition, it is important to proactively manage the change in order to ensure that those affected by the change are committed to the change.

Working closely with you, we will work to identify those business processes that are likely to have the greatest impact on organisational improvement, and then assist in defining the technologies, business processes, training, organisational structural changes, and change management activities that are required to maximise your investment in CMMS and ERP technology.

We are independent of any particular vendor, and have assisted with the implementation of many CMMS and ERP systems, including SAP, MIMS/Ellipse, JDE, Maximo, Pronto, and others.
